My Client, the Food and Environment Agency is seeking a Head of the Contaminants and Authenticity Programme
Salary: 42-52k + Excellent benefits
Purpose:
The Contaminants and Authenticity Programme undertakes research investigations, development projects and analytical services. The purpose is to help its clients promote consumer health and well-being by ensuring the safety and quality of food. The main customers are the UK Food Standards Agency, other government departments in the UK and abroad, the European funding programmes including, EFSA, and UK and multi-national industries. The Programme aligns well with the increased emphasis that Defra has on food supply, sustainability, food quality and food choice.
There are approximately 50 staff in the Programme. The majority are analytical chemists however
the Programme also has a sizable microbiology team. The scientific work of these staff includes:
analysis of samples for known chemical and microbiological risks profiling of complex mixtures
detection and identification of unknown substances that may be deleterious or beneficial to health
understanding and controlling the mechanisms of formation and occurrence of substances with health implications during food production and processing assessment of human exposure, and risk/benefit analysis.

Education:
A degree or equivalent in a related subject, or an equivalent professional qualification is required.
Candidates without this level of qualification will need an appropriate level of relevant experience.
Working in a senior leadership/management role
Working with multiple stakeholders and being able to balance different priorities and needs among a wide range of groups
