Our client is established as one of the largest contractors in the world with a turnover in excess of $2 Billion. They employ around 70,000 people with projects all over the Middle East and Africa.

Their main engineering and construction focus consists of the following types of projects:

  • Heavy Civil Construction: power plants, bridges and highway interchanges, harbor and docks, and civil work for process plants and the petrochemical industry.
  • Highways, roads and airports.
  • Water and Sewage treatment plants, pumping stations and all related networks.
  • Mechanical Construction: fabrication and installation of piping, erection of equipment and vessels, structural steel works for light industry and heavy mechanical works (refineries, petrochemical plants, gas oil separation plants, oil loading and off loading terminals).
  • Pipelines for water, gas and oil,
  • High Quality Buildings.

Due to an ever increasing workload, they are looking to appoint an experienced HSE Manager.

The purpose of the role is to manage and implement the organisation's HSE&S Management System in line with ISO14001 and OHSAS 18001 on various projects, temporary and permanent facilities and insuring the compliance of their sub-contractors.

This role will report directly to the Projects Director and the Group Head of HSE&S.

The successful applicant will have the following qualifications and experience:

  • Degree qualified in a related HSE Field (or equivalent).
  • 20 years experience, with at least 15 years in a Construction Site, Oil & Gas, Petrochemical or a Heavy Civils HSE role.
  • Proven managerial skills.
  • Assertive personality sensitive to multi-cultural & multi-national environments.
  • Certification with internationally recognised bodies (preferred).
  • In depth knowledge of HSE International Codes & Standards e.g. CFR, OSHA, NFPA, British Safety Standard.
  • Developed knowledge of construction project disciplines and engineering and procurement (EP).
  • Developed technical knowledge & understanding of execution methodology.
  • High level of contractual, commercial and cost experience.
  • Experience in preparation, development & implementation of HSE&S Management Systems & Procedures in line with ISO 14001 & OHSAS 18001.
  • Hands on experience in conducting Audits, investigations & root cause analysis & fault tree analysis.
  • High level of computer proficiency (word processing, spreadsheets & presentations).
  • Advanced skills in preparation, development & delivery of training programs.
